Need Your Thoughts

Ok girls. So Em and Melissa asked me about my preg. update and first appointment, etc. My first appointment is Monday. I'll be almost 6 weeks by then. Em and Melissa both asked if I would be getting an ultrasound at 8 weeks, especially for my peace of mind. I know it's not covered by my insurance and the cost would be $200 out of pocket. Sue - did you have an ultrasound at 8 weeks? Do you ladies think I should ask for one and just pay for it? I have to admit, I would love to have one and see the baby and ease my worries, but am not sure what to do.

Jen, I had responded via email, but if it's only $200, DO IT!!!!! I think my ultrasounds were closer to $400 at my doctor and $900 at the specialist in Akron. From 8 weeks to 20 weeks, I had one every month. From 20 weeks to 26 weeks I had one every 2 weeks and from 26 to 30 weeks I had one every week....and from 30 weeks until I delivered at 37 weeks....I had 2 a week. The insurance covered EVERY SINGLE PENNY!!!! Also, you could check and see if if Matt's insurance would cover one and your's will cover another. You will feel so much better just knowing. ;-)

Just about everyone I've known in the past few years has received 2 ultrasounds, one at 8 weeks and one at 20 weeks. I guess I just thought that was pretty "standard", but maybe not. That's the only reason I asked--not to freak you out! However, considering the situation, I guess that I would have better peace of mind having that 8 week one. It's not just about the "fun" of having one, it might ease your mind to know all seems well. If it's only $200, I would do it if it were me and I'm sure John would agree, too.

Jen,
I had a few early ultrasounds to measure the gestational sac and to see the heartbeat. My technician told me that once the heartbeat can be seen, usually that means the baby will be healthy and grow properly.
You'll feel better knowing- go for it.
